Renaissance & Baroque Art

The greatest difference between the Renaissance and Baroque era is in the style used by artists. Renaissance painters and sculptors were among the first to use perspective in their work. This allowed them to give more realism to their creations. However, this focus on adding depth to their work has made paintings and sculptures seem to lack emotions and failed to capture the emotions that it should depict. This lack of expression was solved by Baroque artists as seen in their famous works. They focused more on the drama of the subject they were trying to showcase. In the following examples we will get to see some of Rembrandt's great work depicting the best of Baroque art.  A portrait of the fur merchant in  Simon Schama ’s Rembrand  Nicolaes Rut, who sells fur is advertising his merchandise. The fur coat on the merchant looked as if the fur had been brushed up causing the fur to look like it is standing up by static. The pinked inner color of his eyelids makes it se...

The Elements & Principals of Art

After reviewing  HarmonIntroDesignPrinciples i was able to understand the different techniques artist use to harmonize and give a certain feel or view to their work. Such as asymmetrical balance, unifying the art work, using geometric shapes, and scale.  Artists are always on the look out to  communicate active and effectively, vibrant life in all of it’s diversity without visually assaulting the viewer. This is best shown in the following pieces. Here we have a painting by  Fernando Botero, The Musicians, made in 1991.  Botero creates unity in  The Musicians  with form, shape, color, line, and space. right off we notice how the colors play well with each other. The way the brown bounces off the dark blue and black color gives it harmonious feeling to it. Also all of the musicians are over weight and rounded giving it that shape effect. Lastly we see how all of the musicians are all compacted together giving it a focal point bring the painting a...

Antiquity

Roman, Greek and Egyptian culture all have a different forms of expressing their art styles . The Romans learned sculpture and painting largely from the Greeks and helped to transmit Greek art to later ages. Classical art owes its lasting influence to its simplicity and reasonableness, its humanity, and its sheer beauty.Greek love of beauty, and a growing spirit of nationalism found fuller expression.Greek artists scrutinized human forms closely to create idealized Classical figures. On the other hand Ancient Egyptian art reached a high level in painting and sculpture, and was both highly stylized and symbolic. Two art pieces that stood out to me were the Mask of Agamemnon designed by the Greek and The spear bearer also designed by the Greek but adapted by the Romans. These two art pieces represented the similar art styles as well as the differences in technique and detail withing the Greek and Roman culture. The mask of Agamemnon  was one of several go...
My name is Jannisol, im a liberal arts math and science major in persuit of  studying veterinary medicine. One of the things i've always enjoyed was caring for animals and drawing. I first started drawing at the age of 8. I remember always having drawing competitions with my cousins or my friends. This helped me develop my drawing skills over the years but i eventually stopped. Ive always had an appreciation for art especially performing arts. I would always join school talent shows, participate in acting clubs and even got chosen to go to a ballet school back in middle school because of how much i enjoyed and invested time into this thing we call art. I appreciate the fact that art has many forms and different ways we can express it. I chose this class hoping to learn how art developed and influence all these different eras in time.
